The best Game Pass additions of 2022: October

Game Pass has had another fruitful year of incredible additions, and October 2022 ensured there were few tricks and plenty of treats, such as the Amnesia Collection, Chivalry 2, Soma, and more.

Microsoft’s first-party studios might not have had the most exciting year for new releases, but there is no doubt that Game Pass subscribers have been eating well. 2022 has seen the arrival of some of the best Games on Game Pass, and while we wanted to do a full round-up of the hottest games, we realised the list would be much too long, so we opted to split it into monthly highlights. Today we’re looking at October’s additions, which includes the likes of the Amnesia Collection, Chivalry 2, Soma, and more.

Persona 5 Royal

This previously PlayStation exclusive JRPG finally made its way to Xbox consoles and PC in October, offering the full experience with more than 40 DLC packs included in the Persona 5 Royal edition. There is a lot of game here, and gives you the premium experience of exploring Tokyo to become the ultimate Shadow Thief. It seems to have gone down a treat with players on Xbox as well, with more than 40,000 TA members having unlocked a Persona 5 Royal achievement so far. If you’re a fan of the genre, Persona 5 Royal should definitely be on your radar

Gunfire Reborn

Gunfire Reborn stormed into Game Pass after plenty of baking time on PC, so when it came to console, it was a fairly clean experience. It’s an FPS shooter rogue-like that sees you fight through three acts of escalating difficulty and takes a few pointers from Gearbox’s Borderlands games. Tom and Luke spent a few fun evenings running through these gauntlets for their Gunfire Reborn impressions — and impress it did. Offering up a handful of heroes, a vast number of weapons, and a ton of powerups and modifiers, Gunfire Reborn is chaotic but also rewards those that choose to strategise. With four difficulty levels to work through, the Gunfire Reborn achievements aren’t for the faint of heart, but with co-op for up to four players, at least you won’t be alone.

Gunfire Reborn is a level-based adventure game featuring FPS, Roguelite, and RPG Elements. Every level is random, each restart is a brand-new experience. You can play the game alone, or in 2-4 player co-op.

Chivalry 2

Swords, shields, and bread is the order of the day in Chivalry 2, a medieval warfare simulator, that sees hordes of players clashing in martial combat. It’s a first-person slasher of sorts and gives you a huge roster a of weaponry to wield against your fellow players, while also giving you the ability to do some other creative actions that straddle the line between realism and fantasy. Want to fire yourself out of a trebuchet? You can. Kill a player with a loaf of bread? You got it. How about run across a battlefield with an axe in one hand and a chicken in the other? Of course! Chivalry 2 is a ton of fun and worthy of anyone’s time, especially if you can get a few buddies together for a chaotic siege, as the antics can easily get wildly out of hand.

Amnesia Collection

The Amnesia Collection bundles three of Frictional Games’ fantastic horror hits into one package: Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, and Amnesia: Justine. All three use the series’ insanity meter, which sees you having to continuously keep your character thinking straight, as things get scarier the more your sanity crumbles. Each game tells wildly different stories, although all ensure you’re in for a hellish ride. This collection was a perfect addition for the spooky season, and so far, we’ve seen 12,000 TA users brave the horrors within, 269 of which have actually managed the completion!

Amnesia: Collection

The collection contains three Amnesia titles: The Dark Descent, A Machine For Pigs, and Justine. Experience the horror that kickstarted the Let’s Play revolution; be immersed in three living nightmares that will chill you to the core.

A Plague Tale: Requiem

Amecia and Hugo return in A Plague Tale: Requiem, the sequel to 2019’s brilliant Innocence, and it seems to have pleased many of the 91,000 TA users that have played it as it currently holds a 4.4/5-star rating. When Hugo’s ailment once again begins to threaten the world — along with the swarms of vermin that come with it — the pair, along with their mother and Lucas, must put themselves in harm’s way in order to find a potential cure. Sean was full of praise for the game in his A Plague Tale: Requiem review, saying that it offers a much better gameplay experience than its predecessor, even if the story is a little slow to start. If you enjoyed the first game, we’re sure you’ll love Requiem… just mind the rats!

A Plague Tale: Requiem – Windows

Embark on a heartrending journey into a brutal, breathtaking world, and discover the cost of saving those you love in a desperate struggle for survival. Strike from the shadows or unleash hell with a variety of weapons, tools and unearthly powers.

Signalis

Another horror treat perfect for October, Signalis takes us to a dystopian future where humankind has colonised the solar system. It’s a survival-horror game that leans quite heavily on resource management and puzzle solving as key gameplay elements, with a story filled with sci-fi anime cutscenes and cinematic moments. Compare to the other games on this list, Signalis has been started by a lot less TA members, but it’s rocking a star rating of almost 4/5 stars, so it could be a worthy experience you should consider trying.

SIGNALIS

A classic survival horror experience set in a dystopian future where humanity has uncovered a dark secret. Unravel a cosmic mystery, escape terrifying creatures, and scavenge an off-world government facility as Elster, a technician Replika searching for her lost dreams.

Soma

Last, but certainly not least, of October’s tastiest treats, is another Frictional Games horror game, Soma. Much like the developer’s other games, Soma is a survival horror game and tasks its protagonist with exploring an abandoned research station under the sea. It’s a story-focused romp that also happens to be a pretty simple completion, and with a 4/5-star rating here on TA, it’s bound to entertain those of you with a nose for great horror experiences. It’s short, sweet, and should give your heart a good workout at times!
