Twisted fairytale-like indie Metrodvania The Guise from Ratalaika Games and Rasul Mono is out on PS. As your story begins, you’ll see a group of kids who end up inside a room that they should not have entered. While there, they notice a peculiar mask. One of the kids dares another one to wear it. It’s then that Ogden – the kid you’ll play as – takes the makes, which ends up transforming him into a monster. You must then use Ogden’s new form and the abilities he’ll gain to find a way to fix things before it’s too late.

After the transformation, you’ll control your character with the left analog stick or the D-Pad, jumping with the X button and attacking with the Square button. If you’ve managed to defeat enough enemies to absorb their energy to fill up the green circle in the upper right corner of the screen, then you’ll be able to press the Circle button to heal up some of your wounds.

Since this one is a Metroidvania, you’ll be able to unlock new abilities as you defeat the different bosses in the game. Defeat Damia, fiend of the Old World, and you’ll gain the Spit Acid ability. This one will allow you to launch a bit of green acid from your mouth by pressing down on the D-Pad or the left analog stick and the Circle button. Beat Holden, the imprisoned mortal, and you’ll obtain a Black Soul amulet that will allow you to progress further in the game. Defeat Priscilla, the rat queen, and you’ll gain the ability to climb walls and run on the ceiling.

Trophy-wise, The Guise has a full trophy list with a Platinum trophy for you to add to your collection. And since it’s a Cross-Buy title, your purchase will allow you to download both the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 5 versions of the game, with each one having its own separate trophy list. It’s a short list with 11 Gold trophies for you to work on. There are no missable trophies, which is always great news for trophy hunters. The Guise is a Twisted fairytale-like indie Metrodvania. The game’s combat is not stellar, but the art style and writing help to balance things out. Will you be able to help Ogden recover from this most unnatural of curses?
