My Universe – My Baby Dragon is the latest casual sim experience from Microids and It Matters Games on Nintendo Switch. As the new dragon caretaker in town, you’re tasked with opening your very own Dragonward! You’ll have to pay attention to the needs of each of the dragons that you care for so that you can care for them properly to eventually get your Dragon Warder certification. It’s a lot of work, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t also take some time to play with each dragon.

But before you can do anything of that, you’ll have to customize your character’s look! You can select from a male or female avatar and choose its skin color. Next up is the hairstyle. At first, you only have two of them to choose from, but you can unlock some extra ones. And along with a hairstyle, you also need to select a hair color. The last thing to configure is your avatar’s outfit. There are once again two options to choose from and two colors for them – with two more that need to be unlocked. If you’re happy with the decisions you’ve made, give a name to your character, and you’re set!

Once that’s been taken care of, you’ll be greeted by Wallis, who will be your mentor on this journey to become a Dragon Warden. There are four types of dragons: fire, water, earth, and air. Wallis will give you the option of grabbing one of three colorful dragon eggs, so just grab the one you like the most! She will tell you that if you take a good look at a dragon egg, you’ll be able to figure out what you might end up with once it hatches.

For this, you’ll need to use your tools to inspect the egg so that you can then use your Magic Book to confirm your findings. You’ll move a lamp behind the egg with the left analog stick to see the shape of the dragon. There’s also a magic wand that you can ping at different spots at the right time to see a reaction from the egg. You also have a high-tech tin can that can be moved around the egg with the left and right analog sticks to look for the dragon’s sound.

After doing this, you’ll have to enter your findings in the Magic Book to find out what kind of dragon you’ll get! You’ll have to input the dragon shape, the shape, and pattern for the dragon scales, the overall effect for the egg, as well as the dragon sound. Each of these stats has three different variables. Dragon sounds will have one of three colors to give you a better chance of selecting the right one as well. You CAN get these wrong when you submit your answers, so if that happens to you, you’ll need to do it all over again.

Once you get all the answers right, you will need to make the dragon feel comfortable in order for the egg to hatch. Each dragon type likes different things that will make it happy. You must fill the comfy meter to the max and make sure that you decorate the dragon’s nest to make it feel as cozy as possible. The items you can place include stuff such as a pearl opal from the ocean, rose quartz for those that prefer flowers, a magical floating stone, a lunar light, or a fluffy flowery blanket. Maybe you’d like to also add a plushy?

Your new dragon will hatch… the next day. After it does, you’ll get to name it, and that’s when you’ll have to start taking care of it. Your dragon will get hungry, and it will also get dirty, so you’ll need to feed it and clean it up as soon as possible. But the most important ingredient of it all… is love! You’ll need to cuddle your dragon, and it certainly wouldn’t hurt to pick some berries from bushes to feed it so that it knows that you care about it. Your dragon will also want to play at some spots, so be ready for it!

My Universe - My Baby Dragon Review - 4

My Universe – My Baby Dragon puts you in charge of your very own dragon ward as you try to become a proper Dragon Warden by completing a series of mini-games to hatch a dragon, feed it, nurture it, give it flying lessons with the help of your magic amulet, help it develop its magic, and more. You’ll use the GemStitch 3000 to unlock new customization options – such as changing your character’s hairstyle – in a game wrapped under a colorful and charming presentation. That does not mean the game is not without issues. The loading between segments is a bit long, especially for an all-ages game like this one. Expecting younger gamers to have the patience to wait for 30+ seconds at a time is far from ideal, but your mileage may vary depending on the patience of your little ones. My Universe – My Baby Dragon is out on Nintendo Switch with a $29.99 asking price.
