Now, let’s move on to the guide!
Cuff is a sentient and magical bracelet that Frey wears throughout the game – makes sense for a fantasy ARPG! We don’t actually know where Cuff originally came from, but they suddenly appear and vow to help Frey in her quest.
Personality-wise, Cuff can be pretty demanding and is extremely critical of even the most minute of things. Understandably, Frey wants to find a way to escape Athia and return home to New York City. However, Cuff is adamant that she should first help the entire realm.
The gear in Forspoken works practically the same as any other gear system in an ARPG. However, there are only 3 types of gear available, which are:
- Nails – strange but useful!
Normally you might have armor, or pants/shoes, but Forspoken takes it a step further with a type of gear that focuses entirely on nail art – amazing! The gear in Forspoken can be upgraded and will give Frey an overall boost to her abilities and skills. It’s important to continuously find better gear, or upgrade the items you have as soon as you can – this makes it easier to clear content!
Now, the combat in Forspoken revolves around magical abilities. There are 4 magic types in the game:
- Purple Magic
- Red Magic
- Green Magic
- Blue Magic
Each magic type has a variety of unique spells to unlock, and each does something different. The abundance of spells allows you to experiment with your combat style, so you’ll more than likely find a few that suit your specific play style.
How to Unlock New Spells
To unlock new spells you need to save up enough mana points! You obtain mana points when you level up, which can then be spent on brand-new magical abilities. Mana points can also be found in mana pools, which are sprinkled throughout Athia. If you end up unlocking the wrong spell, you can even unlearn it to get your mana points back – useful!
How Long is Forspoken?
While game time can vary depending on how fast you zoom through the content, Forspoken is actually a pretty short game if you only stick to the main storyline. There are 12 chapters in total, but there are also tons of side quests to complete. You can easily get a lot of hours out of the game if you’re a completionist.
We recommend taking the time to experience the side quests, and to explore the land of Athia. It’s a beautiful landscape, so it would be a shame to not delve into every corner of the destination. You also need to focus on these two features to be able to upgrade your gear, otherwise you may find yourself stuck when it comes to the more difficult content.
