Baldur’s Gate 3 “isn’t playing the exclusivity game,” says studio boss

It appears that Larian’s upcoming RPG Baldur’s Gate 3 is not a PS5 console exclusive like many had assumed, but an Xbox Series X|S still has not been confirmed.

During Sony’s recent State of Play event, Larian announced that Baldur’s Gate 3 would be coming to PS5 and PC on August 31st. An Xbox Series X|S release was never mentioned, and many assumed that the RPG epic would be a console exclusive to PS5, at least for a limited time. As it turns out, it appears this isn’t the case.

Baldur’s Gate 3 doesn’t have any exclusivity

“Relax. We still aren’t playing the exclusivity game,” Larian Studios’ CEO Swen Vincke said on Twitter, seemingly referring to a previous IGN article on the topic of exclusivity.

However, at this stage, Larian has only announced Baldur’s Gate 3 for PS5, PC, and Mac, and there is no mention of an Xbox Series X|S release to be found.

In a statement given to PushSquare, a PR representative said there is no launch exclusivity for the game: “Right now, Larian is planning to release Baldur’s Gate 3 for PC, Mac, GeForce Now, and PS5. That said, they don’t have exclusivity and will announce support for additional platforms if and when they’re ready.”

For whatever reason, it seems that Larian is just skipping an Xbox Series X|S release at this time, which does seem like an odd move considering there is no exclusivity attached to the game. Fingers crossed, we’ll hear more about Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox sometime in the future.
